Why a bee?

So I thought I would start with an introduction. Clean, simple, organised.. like the German I am… So for the title. It is a reference to a quote from one of my favorite books at the moment.

„Some say a bee’ll cross the ocean for a flower“, answered the old man with a smile. „Though I’ve never known one to do so“. – „A Gentleman in Moscow“ by Amor Towles

It isn’t one of the key quotes, but it spoke to me in a way. When you really want something, you will do anything for it. So, I didn’t crossed an ocean for my current adventures (at least I’m pretty sure, having geography as a weakness), but I picked a different challenge instead. Volunteering in Romania. How come you ask?

After graduating university I found my self in front of an impossible choice about my future, not knowing where to go and what to do. The only thing I was sure about was the wish to see a little bit more of the world. So I traveled and traveled a bit more.. and when I returned I hoped for some enlightment… but I only found a new way of traveling. An EVS (for those of you who don’t know it and aren’t familiar to Google/Ecosia or any other search engine, I will explain. It is an opportunity to volunteer in the EU for a maximum of one year in the age between 18-30) After clicking through a lot of projects I found Outward Bound Romania, they focus on outdoor and non-formal education. I was impressed by the description and applied.

So, long story short, that is how I started my EVS in Romania on the 1st of November.
